Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council (LC) today witnessed uproar, as the opposition members sought a time-bound judicial commission to investigate civilian killings, which occurred during 2016 summer.

Soon after house met, members from opposition Congress and National Conference (NC) parties including Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, Showakat Hussain Ganai, Jugal Kishor Sharma, Naresh Kumar Gupta, Rani Gargi Blowria, Ali Mohammad Dar stood up from their seats and raised slogans against government demanding a judicial probe into the Kashmir killings.

Referring to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s statement published in today’s Greater Kashmir, NC’s MLC Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri said, “CM madam has said that 2016 agitation was pre-planned but on several occasions PDP’s own Member Parliament and senior leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig alleged that some police officials hatched conspiracy to topple the government, we just want to know who planned this massacre”.

Countering opposition, members from treasury benches including Surinder Chowdhry, Vibodh  Gupta, Sofi Yousaf, Saif Ud Din Bhat asked the opposition to stop politicizing the issue. This infuriated the situation and two sides indulged into verbal duel.

“You tell us who killed innocents,” said BJP’s Vibodh Gupta, while PDP’s Surinder Chowdhry alleged that “National Conference is behind the whole unrest”.

“Why you are asking this in the House, everyone knows that it was you and your party,” Surinder Chowdhry alleged.

THough, Chairman LC Haji Inayat Ali appealed the opposition members to stop wasting time of Question Hour and take their seats.

However, opposition ignored the repeated pleas for maintaining calm, the chairman around 11.17 am   asked the members to continue with question hour. In the meantime, members of the opposition parties stormed into Well of the House and resorted to anti-government sloganeering and hooting.

MLC Showkat Hussain Ganai said, “Yeh Koun Si Jamhooriat Hai, Aap Hume Sun Kyo Nahi Rahe ( What type of Democracy is this, why you are not listening to us).

Slamming the opposition, PDP MLC Firdous Tak alleged that they are ‘playing to gallery’.  “You don’t have any issue, your protest is for playing to gallery,” Tak said pointing towards Dr Veeri, who he said was allegedly looking media gallery instead of chairman.
