Coaching Centres Association Wednesday said that the ten percent free quota allocated for orphans, below poverty line and destitute students was already filled by respective coaching institutes from the beginning of the session.

CCA president Junaid Yusuf said: “In spite of that, the directorate of school education passed an order dated 26th December enlisting the students who are eligible for free education at various coaching institutes. This step is ill-planned as it was executed after the classes had already begun,” he said.

He added that coaching institutes have ended up giving 20 percent students free education in this session. “To make matter worse, the coaching industry is the only industry which is liable to pay 18% GST and also provide 10% free services. As previously stated, the Government has to come clear on this ambiguity,” he said.

He said that appropriate student teacher ratio as decided by the expert committee under the supervision of High Court was 150 provided there is 9 sq ft space available for every student and same would be adhered to by all coaching institutes.

He added that CCA will also request authorities to grant them registration for at least 3 years instead of 1 year.

He said that CCA would conduct frequent inspections at different institutes to check whether the norms are being adhered to. “The same is a step towards self-regulation rather than to attract undue intervention from external parties,” he added.
