Srinagar, Dec 10: Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of Jammu and Kashmir, G R Sufi, on Monday served a notice to Public Information Officer (PIO) of the Roads and Buildings Department asking him to show cause as to why penalty proceedings should not be initiated against him for furnishing incomplete and false information.
Taking strong note of furnishing wrong and incomplete information by PIO of R&B Division Bandipora to an RTI applicant, Abdul Rahim Dar, the CIC ruled: “The PIO is accordingly directed as to why penalty under section 17 of the Act may not be imposed on him. His reply, if any, must reach to this Commission within 30 days from the receipt of this order.”
The order came after CIC noted that the part of the Information disclosed by PIO seems not to be correct. “The PIO has firstly denied that any approval was given for extension in work than originally allotted work but later on has admitted that approval was given on extension on original allotments on account of Urgency,” the order reads.
The CIC observed that the information with regard to the agencies from whom purchases were made has not been given. “Similarly at point No. 3 the information given to the information seeker is incomplete in so far as the reasons for enhancing amount have not been mentioned,” the order reads.
