Jammu and Kashmir government has asked the Central Reserve Police Force to vacate the land under its occupation on the city outskirts here.

In a communication, a copy of which is in possession of Greater Kashmir, the state government has put the CRPF on notice to evacuate the land belonging to the J&K Horticulture Produce Marketing & Processing Corporation at Zakura.

The government has also turned down the request of the paramilitary force to raise additional structures and renovate the existing buildings on the land in question. “The administrative secretary, horticulture department has denied issuance of the no objection certificate to the commandant 28th battalion CRPF for raising any additional structures vis-à-vis renovation of existing structures,” reads  the communiqué, which the managing director of the corporation has sent to the CRPF.

It states that the concerned commanding officer should release pending rentals and evacuate the occupied site of JKHPMC forthwith.

It may be recalled that with the onset of militancy in Kashmir, the army occupied the land at Zakura in 1990. Later, the CRPF occupied it in 1994 after the army moved out. Before 1990, the HPMC constructed an apple grading and packaging centre on the land and had also proposed to set-up cold store on it. But the project remained incomplete after army took the possession of the said land.

Talking to Greater Kashmir managing director HPMC, Dr Abdul Kabir Dar confirmed that they have written to the CRPF authorities to vacate the land as soon as possible.

“Nearly 60 kanals of the corporation land is under occupation of the CRPF for the past 24 years,” he said.

The MD said that J&KHPMC is planning to revive the project which was abandoned in 1990. “It’s no possible until forces vacate our land,” he added.

He said that the corporation can generate revenue once it provides fruit growers with infrastructural facilities.  “We have written to the state authorities to arrange alternate accommodation for the CRPF in lieu of the land,” the MD added.

When contacted, CRPF spokesman Rajesh Yadav said accommodation has been provided to them by the state administration and police. “If anybody has any problem relating to our accommodation, he should contact the state administration,” he said.
