Forces harassing families, neighbours of militants: NC legislator tells assembly

“What is the crime of their families? Why their families and neighbors are being harassed? The forces have damaged the houses and vehicles. The cost of damages is not less than Rs 30 lakh each,” said Larmi, adding that “Why does it happen every day?”

Opposition National Conference’s legislator and MLA Homshalibugh Abdul Majeed Larmi on Monday asked the government to answer: why are the families and neighbors of militants harassed?

Larmi was speaking in reaction to south Kashmir’s Redwani area, where forces have allegedly damaged vehicles and ransacked propery.

“What is the crime of their families?  Why their families and neighbors are being harassed? The forces have damaged the houses and vehicles. The cost of damages is not less than Rs 30 lakh each,” said Larmi, adding that “Why does it happen every day?”

Larmi asked the government to explain the reasons for “harassing” the militant’s family and relatives. “If anyone is militant, what is the crime of his family or any of his relative,” he said.
