Government forces on Wednesday allegedly thrashed the families of several militants during a cordon and search operation in Heff-Shirmal area of Shopian district in south Kashmir, even as several civilians were reportedly hit by pellets during the ensuing clashes.

An uncle of militant Saddam Padder has been hit in the head, they said, adding that he received several stitches in the wound.

As the operation was on, people took to streets and staged protests.
