Srinagar, Nov 9:  Government on Friday arrested chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani outside his house and kept senior Hurriyat leaders Shabir Ahmed Shah and Nayeem Ahmed Khan under House arrest on Friday.
The Hurriyat has strongly condemned the arrest of Geelani. “Geelani, who was under continued house arrest, today left his residence to offer Friday prayers but as soon he along with Dr Ghulam Muhammad Ganai left the house, the duo was arrested by the police and lodged in police station Humhama.
Meanwhile, government has also put Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chief, Shabir Ahmed Shah under house arrest, a party spokesman said.
“Shah was scheduled to address a gathering after Friday prayers at Islamabad (Anantnag). However, a police party reached his house late Thursday and put him under house arrest. He was not even allowed to offer Friday prayers in a nearby mosque,” party spokesman said.
Condemning frequent house arrest of senior resistance leader and National Front chairman Nayeem Ahmad Khan, the deputy chairman of the party Muhammad Altaf Wani said the government was using its forces to hide desperation.
In a statement today, Wani said, “New Delhi wants to kill the freedom sentiment of Kashmiri people and for this purpose it has activated not only its forces and intelligence agencies but also its collaborators and paid agents.”
Wani paid rich tributes to all the martyrs, hailed the people lodged in different jails and praised the resistance leadership especially Nayeem Ahmad.
