A youth was killed on Sunday in firing by government forces on protesters in Shopian district of south Kashmir following the killing of top Hizb commander Mehmood Ghaznavi in a gunfight earlier today.

Yasin Yatoo alias Ghaznavi was killed along with two associates in an overnight gunfight with forces in Awneera village of the district.

A police officer told news agency GNS that the youth identified as Mohammad Sayeed Bhat s/o Ghulam Hassan of Zainpora was injured critically in firing by government forces in Shopian and was shifted to SMHS hospital Srinagar for treatment. He later succumbed to his grave bullet injuries.

This is the second civilian killing in a day. Earlier, a youth Owais Ahmad Dar, son of Muhammad Shafi Dar was killed in pellet firing by forces in Kakpora area of nearby Pulwama district.
