Govt unaware about identity of 804 pellet victims

The district administration Ganderbal has not described nature of the injuries to 137 pellet victims. It has submitted data for 43 days only from 21 August, 2016.

Government is unaware about the identity of 804 pellet victims in Kashmir, reveals an official report submitted to the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC). These pellet victims are in addition to the list of 1725 victims submitted by the Government to the commission. 

The district administration Shopian has informed the SHRC that 850 pellet victims had visited the health institution. Among them, 67 had pellet injuries in eyes. However, of the total pellet victims, 330 have been identified.

The district administration Ganderbal has not described nature of the injuries to 137 pellet victims. It has submitted data for 43 days only from 21 August, 2016.

The district administration Sopore, where 440 people were hit by pellets, have also not revealed the nature of the injury of the victims. Authorities of Sheeri area of Baramulla have also not mentioned the nature of injury to 155 people.

Report submitted by the district administration of eight districts to the SHRC has revealed that 75 percent of those who suffered pellet injuries during 2016 unrest, belong to the northern district.

Of the total 1725 pellet injuries, 1300 occurred in northern areas, with Sopore accounting for the highest 440 pellet victims in the valley.
