Justice Mir takes oath as Chief Justice of Meghalya HC

Justice Mir takes oath as Chief Justice of Meghalya HC

Justice Muhammad Yaqoob Mir was today sworn in as the Chief Justice of Meghalya High Court. Mir was administered the oath of office by Governor Ganga Prasad in a ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong.  

 Judges of Jammu and Kashmir High Court- Justice Ali Muhammad Magrey, Justice D S Thakur and Justice Janak Raj Kotwal were present on the occasion.      

Chief Minister of Meghalya, his cabinet ministers, Chief Secretary and DGP of Meghalya and other officers of the state government were also present.    

Born on 28 May 1957 in village Rajpora of Pulwama district, Justice Mir did his LL B from Kashmir University and practiced as an advocate from 1981 to 1993 after joining the Bar. 

Mir was appointed as district and sessions judge on 27 May 1993. He has served as principal district and sessions judge Baramulla; principal district and sessions judge Anantnag; additional district and sessions judge Srinagar; special judge anti-corruption Kashmir; registrar general High Court of J&K and principal district and sessions judge Srinagar. 

 Justice Mir was elevated as additional judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on 23 November 2007. He was appointed as permanent judge of the High Court on 1 October 2009. He functioned as acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir from 5 January 2015 to 2 February 2015. GKNN
