Kashmir: Police sub-inspector killed, SPO injured in Zakura shootout

Inspector General of Police Munir Khan said that police cordoned off Zakura area after inputs about the presence of militants.

A police sub-inspector (SI) was killed and a Special Police Officer (SPO) injured after militants opened fire on a police party in Zakura area of Srinagar on Friday. 

Inspector General of Police Munir Khan said that police cordoned off Zakura area after inputs about the presence of militants.

“As the searches were on near suspected spot, hiding militants opened fire, triggering a shootout. A sub-inspector Imran Ahmad and an SPO were injured in the shootout,” he said.

He said that the SI, identified as Imran Tak, succumbed. 

Khan said a suspected militant was arrested from the area. He has been taken into custody, said Khan.
