Kathua case: 14 injured after students clash with forces in Kashmir

Students protesting the brutal rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu's Kathua district in January, clashed with the government forces on Thursday in north Kashmir's Baramulla and south Kashmir's Shopian districts, leaving fourteen students injured.

The protesters hit the roads in Shopian town and Delina area of Baramulla to protest against the horrific rape and murder of the minor.

Reports said that the protesters pelted the forces with stones who responded by firing pellets and tear gas.

They said that teh students after coming out of coaching centres clashed with the forces near Jamia Masjid Shopian. Fourteeen persons, including students, were injured in the clashes.

Reports of clashes were also received from Safa Kadal area of Srinagar. They said that minor clashed erupted in the area. However, the situation is normal now.

The protests occurred despite the authorities suspending class work in educational institutions at many places in Srinagar, Ganderbal, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian and Anantnag districts.

After violent protests at over a dozen places on Wednesday, authorities had taken precautionary measures to avoid a face off between the agitating students and the forces.
