Kulgam, Oct 11: Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Mir Jahangir on Wednesday visited Waltango Naard- a remote Gujjar basti nestled in the Pirpanchal range and took stock of the rehabilitation measures taken by the government in the wake of snowstorm that hit the habitation in 2005.
“Out of total 120 calamity-hit families as many as 76 were provided hutments by the government soon after the disaster. The left over families numbering 44 were recommended to the government for a cash compensation of Rs 4 lakh each,” Mir said while interacting with the calamity hit people.
He said the district administration is vigorously pursuing the case with the government to make the proposal through.
Acting on the reports of land erosion of the spot where the snowstorm affected were rehabilitated, he directed the BDO to take up protection bandhs under NREGA on first priority, adding dovetailing option will also be explored to protect the patch fully.
Earlier, Jahangir visited Kilam Degree College and reviewed pace of progress. He sorted out the land acquisition issue on the spot and asked the JKPCC to fast track execution of the project. He also visited PHC Razloo, PHC Devsar and PHC Kilam and took stock of the medical facilities.
