Militant found dead in Tral village

A militant's body was recovered by locals on Saturday at Eidgah area of Tral township of Pulwama district. 

The body of the militant was recovered by locals during wee hours after they were coming out from masjid, an eyewitness said, adding, police immediately reached the spot and took the body into their custody. 

A letter was also attached with the body which read that the deceased was a non-local Jaish-e-Muhammad militant namely Umer Bhai of Pakistan. "He was killed when an IED went off accidentally in some forest area. Kindly bury him at the earliest,” read the letter.

Meanwhile, a senior police official said that on Saturday morning, locals informed police about the body at Eidgah Tral. “Police reached the spot and took the body for legal formalities,” he said. 

“The militant was killed while another seriously injured when some mine blast went off outside a hideout at Handura forest area of Tral," he added.

DGP Dr. S P Vaid said that the “Pakistani militant died while preparing the explosive material in Handura Tral. “

"While fabricating IED in a hideout near Handura Aripal Tral, explosion took place in which one militant of reportedly JEM died whose body has been recovered by J&K Police/ SF,” DGP tweeted.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed on Saturday in Tral town and its adjoining areas following the militant’s death.  All shops, business establishments, remain closed in the town while public transport was off the roads.

Meanwhile, force launched  CASO's across Tral villages.  Massive search operation is underway since morning to trace rest of militants suspected to be injured in accidental explosion , police said.

“Search operations were launched in Wagad, Pastuna, Seer and Handura villages, SSP Awantipora Muhammad Zahid Malik told Greater Kashmir. The operations continued till late night when this report was being filed.
