In a path breaking initiative, the University of Kashmir (KU) has started uploading the award sheets of the students on the varsity website on daily basis. This has enabled the students to see their marks prior to the declaration of final results.

Officials in the University of Kashmir said the award sheets of the students appearing in Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) courses are uploaded on the website soon after their answer papers are evaluated.

"The system was put in place from the beginning of this year. We have mitigated the concept of the results in the University. The marks are available on website hours after the evaluation of papers," the Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Kashmir University, Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi said. "We have appointed one nodal principal for five colleges who endorse the award sheets submitted by the evaluators. Later the award sheets are uploaded on website by the concerned IT section of the concerned colleges," the Vice-Chancellor said.

Besides the advance access to the marks, students have easy options available to apply for re-evaluation and apply for the Xerox copy of the answer scripts. "All these options are available at one click on the website and the reevaluation process will be completed before the declaration of final results," Prof Andrabi said.

Interestingly, the varsity over the past years has remained in news over the delay in announcement of results and delay in the re-evaluation results. "This is the best thing which KU has done over the past five decades. As and when paper gets evaluated we make the marks available for students on website," a senior KU official said.

He said the system has not been introduced for undergraduate courses but for PG courses as well. "At present, the students who appeared in final year exams recently have access to their marks obtained in the exams. Around 70 percent of the papers have been evaluated and we are hopeful to declare the results in near future," the official added.

"Earlier we had to run from pillar to post to apply for re-evaluation or seek Xerox copies. Now it is available at one click," he said.
