Police on Tuesday foiled a protest march of the Awami Itehad Party (AIP) by detaining its supremo along with several party volunteers here.

The party volunteers led by its supremo and MLA Langate Er Rasheed marched from Jawahar Nagar to Bakshi Stadium to what he said “hoist black flag” at the main venue of I-Day parade in Kashmir.

However, huge contingent of police used force to disperse the protestors and detained Er. Rasheed along with two dozen protestors. They were lodged in police station Rajbagh. During the scuffle, three protestors sustained injuries two of whom were hospitalized.

He said earlier Er. Rasheed hit out at New Delhi for what he said “misleading” international community about Kashmir issue. He also hit out at National Conference working president Omar Abdullah for his “inconsistency”. “He should explain what forced him to boycott last year’s I-Day celebrations,” he said.

“The fact is that last year NC leadership tried to affiliate itself with the popular sentiment and this year citing pro-resistance leadership hardships, he took a different line. At a stage when Kashmiris are at the verge of losing their rights within Indian constitution, Omar Abdullah is adamant to sabotage the moves for unity within various political thoughts and parties,” he said.

“By telling that he (Omar) doesn’t need Hurriyat’s cooperation in protecting 35-A he has proved his arrogance, opportunism, lust for power and nefarious intentions,” he said.

“I question (Chief Minister) Mehbooba Mufti’s talking about 35-A and special status of the state and remind her of the fact that it is she who facilitated the entry of Sang Parivar in the state to bulldoze the rights of people including the special status,” Rasheed said.
