Probe committee submits report on neonatal death

Enquiry committee on Tuesday submitted its report to the office of director health services Kashmir regarding the death of a neonate on August 10 this year at sub-district hospital Sopore due to alleged medical negligence.

The development comes after Greater Kashmir carried a report “Family alleges medical negligence in death of neonate at SDH Sopore” on August 20. The death of the neonate due to alleged medical negligence had sparked protests by locals and relatives of the neonate on August 10 at SDH Sopore.

After the incident directorate of health services, Kashmir had formed an inquiry committee headed by deputy director health, Kashmir, Dr. GM Wani to inquire into the matter and submit the report before Directorate office.

When contacted, deputy director, Dr. GM Wani, who was the inquiry officer, said that the inquiry committee has submitted its final report to the office of the director after “thoroughly” inquiring the matter.

He said that they have verbally submitted the report to the Directorate office as there was no order to submit the report in written form. “Whatever the outcome of the report was we have submitted it verbally before the office of director health,” he said.

Meanwhile, director health services Kashmir, Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman said that he has asked the inquiry team to investigate the matter thoroughly and give the report on its merits. “I am in the field, once I will be back in the office I will discuss the matter with the inquiry team,” he added
