Scrapping Article 35-A will lead to constitutional crisis in J&K: ANC

Awami National Conference vice president Muzaffar Shah Tuesday said that if the Article 35- A which confers the special rights and privileges to the citizens of J&K is scrapped, State will face a serious constitutional crisis. He said the only authority to give nod to rolling back of law is constituent Assembly of the State, which doesn’t exist at present.

Addressing a press conference here Shah said that “once again J&K’s special status is under assault under a well planned conspiracy.” 

“Article 35-A is a question of life and death for every citizen of J&K. It is high time that that people of all the three regions, Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir, irrespective of their religion should join hands and stand against the conspiracy hatched for scrapping J&K’s state subject laws,” he said.

Shah, who is the son of former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Muhammad Shah, said that actually “it is the brainchild of RSS backed BJP to do away with the J&K’s economical, religious and cultural freedom and rights.” 

“First they started with Goods and Services Tax (GST) and now they are hell-bent to roll back Article 35 A,” he said.
