Hundreds of vehicles stuck at HMT, Narbal crossings for hours

Srinagar, Oct 11: A ‘horrible’ traffic jam was witnessed on Srinagar-Baramulla highway Thursday as hundreds of vehicles got trapped for hours together at crucial HMT and Narbal crossings.
 Reports and eyewitnesses said a massive traffic jam occurred at began at around 3.00 pm at HMT and Narbal crossings, putting people to horrifying trouble and resulting in commotion with hapless commuters seen crying and wailing. “Many patients were also caught in the traffic jam. It was the worst ever jam. It almost took patients’ lives,” they said.
 While reports said, police was unable to streamline the traffic on crucial highway, eyewitnesses lambasted the state government for “putting people to inconceivable trouble”.
 “State government has pathetically failed to address this grave problem of traffic jams at HMT, Narbal and Panthachowk crossings,” a visibly agitated commuter told Greater Kashmir.
 “Traffic jams occur at every second instance at the HMT and Narbal crossings. The irony is that J&K Government is doing nothing to address this grave problem,” he said.
 Reports said people had to face lot of trouble with even ambulances caught in the worst traffic jam. “There was no space. Here, there, everywhere were vehicles while the traffic police was nowhere in sight,” said an eyewitness.
 Reports said tourist vehicles heading to Gulmarg were the cause of jam. “Actually it were the big tourist buses which caused the jam. It is happening everyday here and there is no one to put a check on it,” said a trader at HMT over phone.
