This south Kashmir town observed a complete shutdown on Thursday to seek the release of the youth arrested by Police.
Witnesses said scores of youth assembled at Muran chowk and staged a demonstration demanding the release of youth. “The youth pelted stones on force personnel deployed in town, who retaliated with teargas shells and baton charge. The pitched battles between the protesters and the youth continued for the entire day. However the clashes intensified when the deployment was withdrawn in the evening,” witnesses added.
Meanwhile, all the shops and business establishments were closed and transport remained off the roads.
When contacted SSP Pulwama Rayees Bhat said, “Four youth were arrested by police for their involvement in stone pelting.”
