A militant killed in Tral gunfight today had emerged unharmed from the debris of a house razed to ground by forces during a gunfight on May 20 that left top militant commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat dead in Saimoh village.

Adil Rashid Chopan, a resident of Larow village of Tral, was killed in a gunfight with forces in Chopan Mohalla area today. He was affiliated with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen outfit.

Pictures of Chopan surrounded by locals at the gunfight site had gone viral on social media. Sabzar and his aide Faizan Bhat were killed in the firefight earlier this year.

Police said that the gunfight began after forces cordoned off the Chopan Mohalla after “specific inputs” about the presence of militants.

“A joint team of 42RR, SOG Tral and CRPF cordoned off the Chopan Mohalla area of Tral following a specific input about the presence of some militants,” said a police officer.

The exchange of gunfire was going on when last reports came.
