Srinagar, Nov 9: The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani Friday said that New Delhi was bent upon dividing Jammu and Kashmir on communal basis.
“New Delhi has made plans to divide the State and their sinister designs are evident and provocative. They are sowing the seeds of communal politics and have planned to repeat 1947-like situation when Muslims were brutally massacred,” Geelani said in a statement today.
Geelani said, “The information provided to us by authentic sources is that in the garb of religion non-State subjects have collected arms in Jammu region. There is every apprehension that the arms can be used to compel the local Muslims to migrate from Jammu. Probably for this reason, the administration is not allowing us to visit Jammu province.”
“We were to organize a seminar to commemorate those martyrs killed by communal forces on 5th and 6th November in 1947, but the administration imposed a ban,” he said.
“We have reservations on Amarnath Shrine Board but instead of providing clarifications, the Government creates confusion,” Geelani said, adding, “We are not against the yatra, it is their religious right and we understand that common Hindus have nothing to do with communal politics. They have no knowledge of New Delhi’s political designs and agenda. They only want to perform their pilgrimage and nobody will stop them.”
Geelani alleged that his views are projected in a distorted way. “We are not against Hindu community and we believe that keeping the pilgrimage on for months together followed by 50 times increase in the pilgrims would lead to environmental disaster,” he said, adding, “We have started consultations with experts and a seminar is being organised on Saturday.”
Castigating the Jammu and Kashmir Government, Geelani said, “There is martial law in real sense.”
Hurriyat (G) has strongly condemned the arrest of Geelani today. “Geelani Sahib, who is under continued house arrest, today left his residence to offer Friday prayers along with Dr Ghulam Muhammad Ganai but the duo was arrested by police and lodged in police post Humhama,” a Hurriyat (G) spokesman said.
