GMS Darra lacks toilet: Over 200 students go to nearby nallah for relieving themselves

Belying the tall claims of the government of making every area ‘Open Defecation Free’, the situation for the students of Goverment Middle School Darra in Thannamandi zone is worrisome as the school lacks a proper toilet.

The students of the school, over 200 in number, have to go to a nearby nallah for relieving themselves. “We are in a large number, but there is not a single toilet in our school,” the students claimed.

Headmaster of the school Abdul Hamid told Greater Kashmir that an NGO constructed a toilet for the students, but it cannot be used. "Only a structure was fixed. It does not have a soakage pit and that is why it remains unused,” he said.

While talking to Greater Kashmir, the students demanded a proper toilet facility in their school. “We want a proper toilet with water supply. It is the need of the hour for us,” they demanded.

Teacher suspended for ‘misbehaving’ with CEO

Tahir Nadeem Khan Yusafzai

Bhaderwah, May 24: A teacher was suspended for allegedly misbehaving with Chief Education Officer (CEO) Doda in his office chamber on Thursday.

According to an order issued by CEO Doda, the teacher identified as Khalid Sofi entered into the office of CEO Doda without prior permission from the DDO concerned.

The CEO was convening an emergent meeting with officers of the education department. The teacher, Khalid Sofi, used harsh, abusive and derogatory language against the CEO in presence of ZEOs.

"The teacher was repeatedly advised to mend his behavior, but instead of paying respect to his officer, he threatened him for dire consequences," the order reads.

"Pending enquiry into the matter, Khalid Sofi, teacher, is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect and is attached in HS Shadiwan," order further reads.

Principal, Higher Secondary School Jatheli has been designated as enquiry officer in the matter.
