All Parties Hurriyat Conference (M) has condemned what it termed as “inhuman and shameful act” of not allowing its chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, to offer the funeral prayers of his maternal uncle, Tariq Ahmed Buch, who passed away on Monday.

“Mirwaiz was not allowed to share the grief with Tariq’s family members and instead detained him in a police station, when he defied his house arrest to participate in the funeral,” APHC spokesman said in a statement.

“Tariq passed away early Monday morning after a brief spell of illness. Mirwaiz asked the police personnel deployed outside his residence to accompany him so that he could lead or at least participate in the funeral prayers of his uncle. But his request was out rightly rejected by the police and instead he was taken to Nigeen police station,” the spokesman said.

“The government’s vengeful approach of illegally detaining the Mirwaiz at his home, suspending all his basic rights including the right to offering Friday prayers and now even barring him from participating in the last rites of his uncle who was also his close aide and sharing the family grief is dictatorial to say the least  and deplorable,” he said.

Meanwhile, people in large numbers participated in the funeral of Tariq and as he was laid to rest. “His funeral was led by Khateeb of Jamia Masjid Moulana Syed Ahmed Naqshbandi (Imam Hai),” the spokesman said.

“The deceased was the retired deputy registrar at High Court Srinagar. He was an extremely down to earth, helpful and pro-poor person, who worked for the betterment of downtrodden people. During his service period in the High Court, the deceased always remained popular for his good deeds and extremely helpful nature. After his retirement, late Tariq was associated with the Nigeen office of APHC chairman as his close aide and worked with dedication and sincerity,” the spokesman said.

“The death of Tariq has come as a great personal loss for the Mirwaiz. The father of deceased, late Ghulam Hassan Buch was also a close aide of Muhajir-e-Milat Mirwaiz Yousuf Shah (RA) and an active member of Muslim Conference,” he said.

Meanwhile a condolence meeting for the deceased was held at party headquarters. The Fateh Khwani of deceased will be observed at 10 am at Bahu-ud-Din Ganj Baksh, Nowhatta on Thursday.
