The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Tuesday kick-started a mega cleanliness drive here. 

The drive was kick-started by commissioner SMC, Dr Shafqat Khan, in presence of joint commissioner SMC, Syed Abul Qasim, near joggers park Rajbagh

SMC spokesperson in a statement said this week-long multiple sanitation drive, spearheaded by chief sanitation officer, Muhammad Akbar Sofi, would cover all the areas, lanes, bylanes , educational institutes, hospitals ,and various public places in all 35 administrative wards in phased manner.

The statement said besides sanitary workers, the SMC has deployed machinery, including water tankers, fumigators and robots to clear spots where there were complaints of any garbage. Grass-cutting machines and disinfectant sprayers were also used

Meanwhile the drive was also launched in Women's college Nawa Kadal in Downtown. On the occasion, students including teachers participated in the drive and pledged that the every possible effort will be made to make the premises polythene free.
