Awami Action Committee (AAC) on Friday expressed disappointment over what it said barring doctors of SKIMS Soura from attending its medical camp at historic Jamia Masjid here.

The camp was organised by AAC as part of martyrs’ week from May 16 to May 22. Hurriyat Conference (M) spokesman Advocate Shahidul Islam said that he had approached Director SKIMS, Soura personally and even submitted written request from Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for sparing some doctors and para-medics for the camp. “To our utter surprise, not a single doctor from SKIMS, Soura turned up,” he said.

Meanwhile, an AAC spokesman expressed surprise and disappointment that for “the first time in the past 27 years, doctors and para-medical staff from SKIMS, Soura were not allowed by the administration who had been duly requested through a letter to the Director to send a medical team, to participate in this purely social and humanitarian initiative.”

“Hundreds of patients waited for doctors from the institute to check on them but were let down as doctors were not allowed to attend the camp,” the AAC spokesman said. Meanwhile, AAC spokesman said a workers rally will be organized at the AAC headquarters Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal in which AAC delegates from across Kashmir will participate.
