Doctors Adamant On Strike
SAMAAN LATEEF
Srinagar, Oct 19: A day after the government threatened action against the striking doctors, the latter Monday said the strike would continue till their demands aren’t met. Junior doctors of the Government Medical College Srinagar, its associated hospitals, SKIMS and other government hospitals assembled at GMC campus here where they staged a protest sit-in. “We will continue the strike till our demands are not met,” said spokesperson of Doctors Joint Action Committee, Dr Mehraj-ud-din. “The emergencies running in peripheries will be closed too if the government remains adamant and takes any action against the doctors,” he threatened. The spokesperson of Doctors Association of Kashmir, Dr Abdur Rashid Parra, said the government ‘forced the doctors to go for strike.’ “We will not budge before the egoist government, which is hell bent to suppress our voice by pressure tactics,” he said. A group of senior doctors in SHMS hospital, terming the demands genuine, said they were not able to do justice with the patients because of lack of manpower. A group of resident doctors from SKIMS told Greater Kashmir, “We have been left with no option but to go for strike.” The DJAK has asked the striking doctors to assemble in SKIMS on October 22. The junior doctors are on an indefinite strike since October 9 demanding hike in their stipends and implementation of 6th Pay Commission as per SL Bhat panel recommendations.
