With an aim to promote sports and healthy lifestyle in the Valley, leading FM radio channel, 92.7 BIG FM, is organizing the first ever ‘international’ half marathon, here on September 13.

The event titled ‘CCDU Big Kashmir Marathon’ revolves round the slogan “I AM THE CHANGE”.

“The marathon provides people of Kashmir a platform to stand for social causes like: saving water, saving Dal lake, fighting drug abuse, keeping Srinagar city clean. It will also promote traffic awareness, respect for senior citizens and women etc”, a statement issued by the organisers said.

“The runs will be held in two categories. In the main 21-kilomtre half marathon, serious professional runners would be competing involving runners from various counties apart from local and nation al level runners. In the second category which would be 2-kilometre fun run, thousands of runners are expected to take part that includes some of the known celebrities”, the statement further said.

The event carries prize money of around Rs 4-lakh rupees in the professional category that includes for both men and women.

“For the main category event of half marathon, we will be giving away around 4-lakh rupees in cash prizes. The event is open for all professionals, who can register themselves by giving a missed call on 08010927786. In the fun run anyone can participate,” the statement said.

The run, as per the organizers, is scheduled to be held from University of Kashmir, Hazratbal campus, on September 13, (Sunday), at 6:30 a.m. and would culminate by 10 a.m.

 The proposed route for the Run is from Hazratbal via Foreshore – Cheshmashai and back to Kashmir University Campus, they said.
