Kashmir’s top footballers to feature in Indian Super League

Wadoo to play for FC Pune City, Ishfaq for Kerala

Srinagar, July 23: The Kashmir valley’s top two football stars – Mehrajuddin Wadoo and Ishfaq Ahmad – will feature in the first edition of the India Super League (ISL), having been picked up in the domestic draft held at Mumbai.
While the Ishfaq Ahmad was picked up by Sachin Tendulkar owned Kerala Blasters on Tuesday, Mehrajuddin Wadoo was picked by Salman Khan owned FC Pune City on Wednesday. With their selection, both the well known names of India football arena would be playing in the first of its kind league that is set to kick off in September.
In Pune FC, Wadoo would be having company of other domestic like Deepak Devrani
Tapan Maity, Arindam Bhattacharya, Anupam Sarkar, Pratik Shinde, Pronay Halder, Lalit Thapa, Lenny Rodrigues, Ravanan Dharmaraj, Ashutosh Mehta, Joaquim Abranches, Pritam Kotal, Manish Maithani and Israil Gurung. In Kerala Blasters, Ishfaq would be joined by Avinabo Bag, Sandip Nandy, CS Sabeeth Luis Barreto, Milagres Gonsalves, Ramandeep Singh, Renedy Singh, Mehtab Hossain, Sandesh Jhingan, Ishfaq Ahmed, Gurwinder Singh, Nirmal Chettri, Sushant Mathew and Godwin Franco.
Expressing delight on becoming a part of the legendary cricketer Tendulkar’s football side, Ishfaq Ahmad said, “It is great to be getting drafted into Kerala side that is owned by Sachin Tendulkar. The domestic set of players in the side looks good and I am sure that backroom staff would also be good and there will be quality team managements as the team is owned by a player”. “I have been part of ISL along with Mehraj since its inception in 2013. We two were among the players who backed this league from the start. We know how serious ISL people are in promotion of Indian football,” he added.
Mehraj, while commenting on his draft into FC Pune City, said: “It is the draft system where you could be grabbed by any side. However I am lucky to be drafted into FC Pune City side which has got solid fundamentals and foundation in place to become a top football club. It is owned by Salman Khan who is known to give his best to whatever venture he gets into. Keeping that in min d I am sure he will take this club to heights”. “I along with Ishfaq have been part of ISL since inception and were contracted to them since that time. We were part of the coaching camps hosted by ISL and we saw closely what we can expect from this league. It is going to take Indian football to the next level and I am proud to be part of this revolution,” he said.
