Srinagar, Mar 12: The Transworld Muslim University to be constructed under the aegis of Jamiat Ahle Hadees, Jammu and Kashmir opened its camp office at Salfia Muslim Institute, Parry Pora here today.
Brainchild of the Jamiat, the proposed university would be constructed at Nar Kor over an expanse of about 100 kanals of land which the government gave the Jamiat in a recently held cabinet decision.
Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqui who heads the department of Immunology and Molecular Sciences is proposed to be its first vice-chancellor. He said, “We understand the modern-day challenges of the contemporary world and the university will be our response to those,” adding, “It will be a blend of entrepreneurship and academics with a focus on human resource.”
This is the third university in the state coming up under the direct control of a religious school-of-thought after the Vaishnav Devi University at Katra and the Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awanti Pora. The former runs under the aegis of Shri Mata Vaisnav Dev Trust while the latter under, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Auqaf Trust. According to the news reports, the Vaishnav Devi University has shown excellence in academics and is being lauded for making a mark in providing quality education to its students while  the Islamic University of Science and Technolgy at Awantipora has been under serious financial difficulties lately hampering its performance.
Jamiyat too, had pointed to the paucity of funds earlier. “Due to the lack of funds, work on the project could not be taken up; however, the assurances given by the chief minister has revived our hopes,” said Moulana Shoukat Ahmed Shah, President of Jamiat Ahle-Hadis, Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah while appreciating the keen interest of the chief minister hoped that the university would start functioning from 2010. “It would be open for one and all,” he said.
