Despite posting its best ever T20 total on board, J&K suffered a crushing nine wicket defeat against Jharkhand in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy at Chukkapalli Pitchaiah Cricket Ground, Mulapadu, Andhra Pradesh on Friday.

Batting first, J&K posted 168 runs for the loss of nine wickets on board in allotted 20 overs. In reply, Jharkhand achieved the target in only 16.4 overs for the loss of one wicket with skipper Ishan Kishan smashing thunderous 55 ball unbeaten hundred.

Earlier, Jharkhand won the toss and invited J&K to bat first. They got off to a bad start with opener Abdul Samad getting out for naught. He got stump off the bowling of Shahbaz Nadeem. After that Jatin Wadhwan was joined in middle by Shubham Khajuria and the duo put on 79 run stand for the second wicket. Shubham was first wicket to fall between the two, scoring 31 runs from 30 balls. With the addition of only one run Jatin Wadhwan also lost his wicket after scoring 47 from 37 balls.

Seeing the stage set and J&K getting a decent start with more than eight overs left in the inning, hard hitting batsman Manzoor Dar (Pandav) was promoted up the order. He was in middle joined by skipper Parvez Rasool. Initially it was Parvez who took the charge, taking score past 100 run mark. Parvez got out after scoring 24 off 13 balls. After his departure Manzoor Dar started to free his arms and was able to lead J&K to its highest total in T20 format. Manzoor got out after scoring 39 runs from 22 balls in which he scored four boundaries and two sixes. Irfan Pathan scored 12 from five balls. J&K scored 168 runs for the loss of nine wickets in allotted 20 overs. For Jharkhand, Rahul Shukla took five wicket haul.

It seemed that J&K will give tough fight after having posted decent total. However, in-form Jharkhand had other ideas. They had on Friday defeated top side Delhi. In this match they were now lead by Ishan Kishan who smashed unbeaten ton from 55 balls. He formed 104 run stand with his opening partner Anand Singh. Singh got out after scoring 48 from 34 balls. His was the only wicket to fall in Jharkhand inning. Umar Nazir took that wicket. Jharkhand got to total in 16.4 overs for the loss of only one wicket. Kishan remained unbeaten on 100 from 55 balls. His inning included eight fours and seven sixes.

It was a forgettable outing for J&K bowlers who all were expensive. J&K will next clash with Delhi on Sunday.
