‘Govt wants dignified return of Kashmiri migrants’

Minister for Revenue, Disaster Management, Relief Rehabilitation & Reconstruction and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri today conducted extensive tour of Kashmiri Pandit camps in Jammu to inspect the ongoing developmental works and take stock of the problems of Kashmiri Pandits.

During his visit, Veeri reiterated that government wants dignified return of Kashmiri Pandits to their homes in the valley.

At Jagti in Nagrota, the minister laid the foundation stone of shopping complex. On the occasion, the minister was informed about the status of the works and proposed projects for the benefit of the migrant families living in the township.

Veeri also visited the administrative block and inspected the ongoing repair and renovation works there.

To take the stock of health facilities, the minister visited the hospital established in the township. He along with senior officers went around all the sections and enquired from the doctors about the health facilities, staff strength and equipment provided at the hospital.

Veeri directed the hospital staff to provide all necessary medical help to the families and to maintain cleanliness in the hospital.

The minister also interacted with the Kashmiri Pandits who raised various issues pertaining to development of the township including maintenance of parks, roads, Aadhaar enrollment centre and others.

Veeri also visited another township, TRT Camp in Nagrota, and inspected the ongoing works related to the face lifting of the township.

At TRT camp, the families also submitted a charter of demands to the minister which include effective implementation of PMDP package, issuance of RBA certificate, removal of encroachment on migrant land, enhancement of relief, construction of new community hall, availability of medicines in the dispensary, development of parks, distribution of ration and kerosene oil, water supply and others.

Meanwhile, the minister also visited Radio Sharda, a community radio station started by a Kashmiri Pandits. He lauded the efforts of Ramesh Hangloo and entire team for bringing this community radio service worldwide.

Veeri also visited K P migrant townships in Muthi including Shankaracharya Apartments and TRT camp.

He interacted with migrant families who raised various demands including gensets for mourning hall, repair of damaged roads, ration distribution, children park, special school for migrant children, construction of mini shopping complex, construction of playground, fresh water point etc.

Responding to the demands, Veeri asked Deputy Commissioner Migrants to prepare a proposal for construction of playground and also to look into other issues.

Later, the minister visited migrant camp at Purkoo to inaugurate newly constructed camp commandant office and a shopping complex.

“We all want that Kashmiri migrants should return with honour to their homes in the valley but till then it is our duty to provide all basic amenities to them at all the townships,” Veeri said.

He said that 450 more residential quarters will be constructed at Purkho for Kashmiri migrant families.
