REGISTRATION FEE ROW: Students become victim of 'tussle' between colleges and KURepresentational Pic

A prolonged tussle over non-depositing of registration fee of B Ed 3rd and 4th semesters by the private colleges with the Kashmir University has cost dearly to the students aspiring to get admission for M Ed course.

Around 10,000 students have been denied admission to M Ed course in the KU as well as in the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) as the results of B Ed 3rd and 4th semesters have not been declared by the Kashmir University as yet due to non-depositing of the registration fee by the private colleges, which they have collected from the students.

The students were enrolled in the KU-affiliated private colleges in 2015 to pursue two-year regular mode B Ed course. The 3rd and 4th semester exams culminated on May 26 this year. However, the students are waiting for their results till date.

In January, the KU issued a notification that each student who qualified 1st and 2nd semester exams had to deposit Rs 4225 as registration fee for 3rd and 4th semesters. Although the students at that time had opposed this notification, the university did not withdraw it constraining the students to deposit the registration fee with their respective colleges.

However, the college authorities despite receiving the registration fee from the students didn’t deposit it with the KU. On the directions of the court, though the university conducted the exams for the 3rd and 4th semesters of B. Ed, it did not declare the results citing the non-deposit of the registration fee by the colleges.

“We have become the victim in the tussle between the college authorities and the KU,” the students said, adding that they have been rendered ineligible to seek admission for M Ed course due to this tussle.

“We want to pursue M Ed course but we have been rendered ineligible. We couldn’t apply for M Ed course in the CUK or the KU because our 3rd and 4th semester results have not been declared as yet,” said an aggrieved student from Baramulla.

The students said the B Ed degree consumed their four years and they are still waiting for the declaration of the results.

“We approached the authorities at the KU but in vain. It is a matter of career for thousands of students. Due to non-completion of B Ed degree we are facing difficulties in getting a job even in the private schools despite possessing post graduation degree,” the students said.

The students said they can be eligible for seeking admission for M Ed course in Cluster University (CU) Srinagar if their 3rd and 4th semester results are declared at the earliest.

“We have deposited the requisite fee with the respective college authorities but they didn’t submit it to KU due to which our results have got delayed. We have been the worst hit,” said Khurshid, a student from Baramulla.

The newly appointed controller examination of KU, Prof Farooq Ahmad Mir expressed sympathy with the students and said the varsity will try to declare the results as early as possible.

“I have seen the file and it was also painful for me that the students are suffering unnecessarily. We will convene a meeting with private college owners and will try to declare the results so that the students are relieved,” he said.

He said the colleges should submit the fee of students till the case is decided in the court. “We will refund the fee to colleges if we will lose the case in the court,” he said.
