Srinagar, Dec 3: In a significant political development, Javed Iqbal, the former husband of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, and first cousin of Mufti Muhammad Sayed, joined the National Conference today. The announcement was made by NC patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah while filing his nomination papers from the Sonwar Assembly constituency. Dr. Abdullah termed Javed’s joining NC as auspicious tiding and welcomed him into the party fold.
Javed Iqbal while speaking on the occasion said the same people who had miserably failed to govern the state and brought it on the verge of disharmony, anarchy and chaos towards the end of their rule were how shedding crocodile tears pleading for a second chance to rule the state. He said that people should strengthen NC and the hands of Dr. Farooq Abdullah for responsive governance, employment and peace so as to bring the state out of the mess that the outgoing coalition had landed it into.
Javed was welcomed, among others, by National Conference leaders Ali Muhammad Sagar, Mubarak Gul and Irfan Ahmad Shah.
