Members of various trade bodies on Friday staged a protest at Lal Chowk here against the summons sent by the National Investigating Agency to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and authorities imposing ban on Jamaat-e-Islami.

Traders were holding placards that read “Stop harassment of our leaders”, “Stop interference in our religious affairs”, “NIA summons to Mirwaiz not acceptable.”

The members of KTMF, Beopar Mandal, KCCI, FCIK, KTMF (R) participated in the protest.

The traders also expressed resentment over authorities imposing ban on Jamaat-e-Islami and slapping of PSA on Jamiat Ahal-e-hadees chief Mushtaq Ahmed Veeri. “We have gathered here to protest against continuous harassment of our leadership and arrest of religious leaders, this is direct interference into our religious affairs,” said Sajad Gul, coordinator Kashmir Inc.

“Banning of Jamat-e-Islami and slapping PSAs on religious leaders is unacceptable. Organizations like Jamaat are socio-religious organisations that work for the betterment of society,” he said.
