The newly appointed Director General of J&K Police, Dilbagh Singh Friday said the synergy between police and other government forces needed to be enhanced, and complimented the security forces for bringing about a “considerable improvement” in the overall situation. 

“For achieving everlasting peace and normalcy, the present synergy between different security forces needs to be taken to next level,” Singh said, addressing police personnel at Sopore. 

The DGP, accompanied by Inspector General of Police Kashmir S P Pani, was on his maiden visit to the twin police districts of Baramulla and Sopore where he interacted with officers and other personnel.

Referring to the forthcoming Urban Local Bodies’ and Panchyat polls, Singh asked the police force to be prepared and assured them all requirements for the smooth conduct of these elections will be favourably looked into. 

The DGP’s visit to comes amid an uptick in militancy related incidents in northern Kashmir districts in recent weeks in which several militants were killed in firefights with government forces. 

During the visit, seen as a morale booster for police, Singh also conveyed to his force praise for their work and good wishes from Governor S P Malik and union home minister Raj Nath Singh. 

He also thanked the state administrative authorities for enhancing ex-gratia relief for kin of slain policemen and Special Police Officers (SPOs) from Rs 48 lakh to Rs 70 lakh and from Rs 14.50 lakh to Rs 30 respectively. 

“Welfare of the Jawans, SPOs, Home Guard volunteers is the top priority of the government … Some more welfare measures are expected in coming days,” Singh told police personnel during his addrerss, asking them to remain people-friendly and address their grievances on priority. 

Pani, the IGP thanked the DGP for his keenness in redressing grievances of policemen, saying the force will put its best foot forward for any challenge.

Police chiefs of Baramaulla and Sopore, Imtiyaz Hussain and Javed Iqbal respectively, briefed the DGP about measures taken for maintenance of law and order and curbing militancy in their districts.
