V-C visits frontier district, inspects land

Srinagar, Sep 23:  The Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir Prof Talat Ahmad Friday visited north Kashmir district of Kupwara to initiate  the process of  starting the KU Kupwara campus and identify the land for the purpose.
 The V-C was accompanied by Registrar KU Prof Syed  Fayaz, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof A M Shah, Deputy Registrar Development KU, Executive Engineer  KU Muftti Burhan and Special Secretary to VC Qaisar Ajaz.
 Earlier the V-C along with his team had a detailed meeting with Deputy Commissioner Kupwara  M S Rather  and MLA Kupwara, Mir Saifullah in  where the prospect of  the Kupwara campus was discussed.
 Later Prof Talat visited proposed site for KU Kupwara campus spread over approximately 500 kanal at Sahipora Wayne, 2 kms away from the main Kupwara township. “The land was found suitable for the campus and KU will be taking the transfer of this government land with authorities soon to initiate the process of establishing the campus,” a top official of the KU said.
 Spelling out his vision for the Kupwara campus the V-C said, “We are committed to make higher education more accessible to people particularly living in remotest areas of north Kashmir. This will for sure elevate socio-economic prosperity in the area.”
 The V-C announced that KU will at the outset start some professional job oriented courses in hotel management and information technology at the new Kupwara campus.
 District Development Commissioner M S Rather, assured that district administration will provide all support to KU in making the Kupwara campus a  reality soon .
 Prof Talat Ahmad also visited degree college Kupwara where he interacted with faculty and students and announced that the college will have English literature as one of the subjects at undergraduate level from the forthcoming academic year. Meanwhile, Dr Manzoor Assistant Professor Zoology, Degree College Kupwara has been appointed as nodal officer of KU Kupwara campus.
