Ganderbal municipality ignores DC’s order, fails to install street lights ahead of Ramadhan

Despite directions from the deputy commissioner, the municipal committee Ganderbal has failed to install the much needed street lights in several areas of the town.

The deputy commissioner Ganderbal, Dr Piyush Singla, while chairing a meeting of officials from various departments had directed to make appropriate arrangements during the holy month of Ramadhan in the district for the convenience of the people.

The DC had asked the executive officer Ganderbal municipal committee to install street lights around mosques and other public places so that the people don’t face any inconvenience.

However local residents said that the municipal committee has failed to act in many areas, causing immense inconvenience to the people.

“People are facing tough times while moving out during morning and evening hours particularly for offering prayers,” Sofi Imtiyaz, a resident of Duderhama told the Greater Kashmir.

“Moreover, stray dogs pose great danger to the people during dark. Recently a boy was mauled by stray dogs,” he said.

Executive officer municipal committee Ganderbal, Ghulam Mohammad Lone, said, “We have got the approval from deputy commissioner Ganderbal and started the work. The street lights will be installed near mosques and other places wherever necessary. The work will be completed in the next few days.”
