Srinagar, Oct 9: Prof Saifuddin Soz, Union Minister of Water Resources has urged the Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Sontosh Mohan Dev to ensure the release of salaries and wages of the employees at HMT (Chinar) Unit, Zainakot, Srinagar, in view of the approaching festival of Eid-ul-Fitr. These employees, Prof. Soz said had not been getting salaries and wages for the past sometime.
According to PIB handout in a communication to the Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Prof. Soz reminded him that during the course of their last meeting, he (Mr Dev) had assured him that steps would be taken for finding a lasting solution to problems of the HMT Unit in Srinagar.
Prof. Soz suggested to the Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises that it would be better to organize a meeting, where besides the Officers of the Ministry, representatives of the HMT, Srinagar, and he (Prof. Soz) himself would be present to evolve a plan of action to address the problems that beset the Srinagar Unit.
In the meantime, Prof. Soz informed the Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, that the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry have also evinced some interest in the revival of the HMT Unit at Srinagar. Representative of the Chamber could also be consulted once the proposed meeting of all concerned takes place, Prof. Soz said and added that this effort will throw up an acceptable solution. This matter may also come up in next meeting in the Union Cabinet.
