Srinagar, Dec 9: The Laribal (Dachigam) Fish Farm has produced fish worth Rs 14 lakh in the previous year. This year so far (for nine months) the farm has produced fish worth Rs 9 lakh. This was revealed at a meeting at Laribal, Dachigam, where minister for Fisheries Aijaz Khan reviewed the working of Department of Fisheries, Kashmir the other day. During his inspection of the farm the minister monitored breeding operation of rainbow and brown trout fish. The minister was informed that during current year the hatching and rearing capacity of the unit had been increased to enable the department to produce more fingerlings. The minister stressed the officers to work in coordination to achieve targets vis-à-vis development of fisheries in Kashmir. Officer-in-charge of the farm informed the minister that about seven lakh brown trout seeds are produced annually which is stocked in trout streams of the state. He said, besides, six lakh rainbow trout seeds are produced annually from the farm.
