Srinagar, Nov 9: An amount of Rs 1.24 crore has been expended on the development of model villages in Kupwara district against an allocation of Rs. 2.40 crore up to ending October 2006.
This was stated at a meeting of officers held at Kupwara Thursday under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Abdul Majid Khanday.
The meeting was informed that 154 lanes and drains have been completed under the model village scheme while 8 rural facility centers will be completed by the end of November this year.
It was further given out that under NREG scheme, Rs. 523 lakh have been utilized as a result of which 60,000 mandays of work have been generated in the district. So far, 50,000 job cards have been issued under this scheme. Besides 329 development works have been taken up, of which 212 works were completed upto October this year.
It was informed that under ICDS Scheme, 639 new Anganwadi centers have been sanctioned of which 603 have been made functional.
Under Social Welfare sector, Rs. 194 lakh were spent for providing prosthetic aid to the physically challenged persons besides Rs. 4.13 lakh spent as pre-matric scholarship for other backward students of the district.
