Srinagar, Nov 9: Agriculture department is establishing an integrated Mushroom Centre at Lalmandi here. Estimated to cost Rs 1.47 crore, the centre will promote scientific mushroom cultivation, said director Agriculture Kashmir Mushtaq Peerzada.
Inspecting a mushroom demonstration-cum-training programme at Lalmandi, here, the Peerzada impressed upon the officers to popularize mushroom cultivation among farmers/un-employed youth.
He said the Valley had great potential for mushroom cultivation. He said the department would make all efforts to tap this potential.
On this occasion, Project Coordinator, S. L. Galhotra highlighted the achievements made by the department in mushroom cultivation during 2012-13.
He said the department was providing Rs. 25,000 cash assistance for establishment of mushroom unit of 100 trays to the interested growers.
"As many as 27 such mushroom units were established in 2012-13 and 55 more will be set up this year," he said.
