Decrying frequent power cuts, the Valley-based business community have accused the Power Development department of inflicting financial miseries on them by resorting to unscheduled power cuts.

The traders said the state government against its promises made earlier, has failed to provide round the clock power supply to the commercial places.

Senior vice president, Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers' Association, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat said the unscheduled power cuts are really giving a tough time to business fraternity.

"We have to bear with five to six unscheduled power cuts of varied durations every day which create lot of problems for us," he said, adding that the extended power cuts during peak working hours result in huge business loses.

He said that they had time and again raised the issue with the officials concerned, who come up with different "excuses."

"It seems that the government is not bothered about the business community who are suffering due to its inaction.

"It is irony that commercial hubs remain without electricity for hours together every day which is unheard of in any place outside the state," Bhat added.

The entrepreneur who talked to Greater Kashmir said that even if there was really any need to cut the power there should have been a fixed time schedule.

"Every winter PDD resorts to indiscriminate power cuts reasoning that generation falls due to less water level in the rivers. But ironically Jammu gets uninterrupted power supply when Darbar moves there," a businessman here said.
