National Conference Saturday condemned the police action in Khrew where a number of youth were injured and many others arrested by the police after its intervention into "an issue pertaining to truckers' union there."

NC spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu demanded immediate release of the arrested youth and asked the Government to initiate an inquiry into the matter.

Mattu alleged that an overt political attempt is being made to subvert a truckers' union at the behest of the local MLA. "NC strongly condemns the police action and the unwarranted use of force in Khrew," Mattu in a statement said.

He said the Police should release the arrested youth immediately and all possible medical assistance be extended to injured.

NC Youth Leader and Pampore Constituency In-charge, Yawar Masoodi also condemned the "unwarranted use of force on innocent youth" and said the local MLA and the administration should desist from exerting "political and police pressure on a legitimate union."
