Continuing its drive against fake Kashmir arts products, handicrafts department has conducted inspection of various dealers in Kashmir and Jammu divisions. According to an official spokesperson, the enforcement wing of the Quality Control Division of the department during the inspection of dealers at different tourist spots such as Pahalgam, Sonmarg, Gulmarg, Dal area, Katra and Jammu city has collected fine of Rs 20,000 from the erring traders.
The fine is enforced to those dealers who sell fake handicrafts in the name of Kashmiri handmade items.
The authorities have warned the erring dealers to desist from selling fake and machine made items in the name of Kashmir arts and get their business establishments registered under Tourist Trade Act 1978 with the quality control wing of the department. They are also advised to affix tags depicting price and other specification on the goods displayed for sale and also issue cash memos to the customers. In case violation of the Tourist Trade Act, action as warranted under the law shall be initiated against such erring dealers.
