Prominent tourism player and former chairman Houseboat Owners Association AzimTuman, passed away on Thursday morning. He was 82. A family source said that Tuman, breathed his last shortly before early morning prayers at his residence in Srinagar. His funeral prayers were held in the afternoon, he said. Tuman ran Mascot Houseboats Group founded by his great grandfather at Nigeen Lake.
Tourism players, business chambers and trade bodies have paid rich tributes to Tuman and offered condolences to the bereaved family. KCCI president Sheikh Ashiq expressed shock and sorrow over the demise of the Tuman. He said whole business community of Kashmir is grief-stricken and paid for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
A statement issued by Nigeen Tourist Traders Association (NTTA) also offered condolences to Tuman's family. "An extraordinary man, he will always be remembered as a great tourism player who has played a pivotal role in the tourism industry of Kashmir," said chairman NTTA Manzoor Ahmed Wangnoo.
The members of Adventure Tour Operators Association of Kashmir (ATOAK) and J&K Ski & Mountaineering Association (JKSMA) expressed their deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of the tourism icon of Kashmir AzimTuman.
President ATOAK Rauf Tramboo said, "The death of AzimTumanSaheb is a huge loss not only to his family but to the entire tourism trade fraternity in Kashmir, in his death we have lost a great tourism asset of our state, we pray for the eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the family members to bear this irreparable loss". Vice President Valley Citizens Council ImdadSaqi and heads of several travel trade and hospitality umbrella bodies and organisations also condoled the demise.
