KVFGDU seeks compensation for orchardists

All Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Dealers Union (KVFGDU), an umbrella body of all fruit associations of Kashmir, has asked government to carry out immediate loss assessment of fruits and orchards due to the snow.

All Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Dealers Union (KVFGDU), an umbrella body of all fruit associations of Kashmir, has asked government to carry out immediate loss assessment of fruits and orchards due to the snow. 

In a state, the chairman of KVFGDU, Bashir Ahmad Basheer said the government must immediately depute  joint team of concerned officers of SKAUST-K, Directorate Horticulture Development and Directorate of Horticulture P&M to all fruit orchards of the valley for ascertaining the losses suffered due to recent heavy snowfall resulting in damage to apple crop and fruit plants and will give awareness to all the Growers for immediate measures so that the remaining apple crop could be saved from any diseases. 

He also that government should consider grant of compensation of the losses in favour of fruit growers of Kashmir in the shape of a package so that the poor growers of the valley will stand once again and will be in a position to earn their livelihood.
