4-day annual Ladakh Festival to commence on Sep 22 in Leh

Annual Ladakh Festival, the four-day tourism and culture promotion event of the Himalayan region, will commence on September 22 at Leh. 

The event is jointly organised by Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh and J&K tourism department. 

   

As has been the practice, this year also Ladakh Festival will begin with a colourful procession of cultural troupes from all parts of the district and school children performing on traditional musical orchestra starting from Karzoo through Leh market that finally ends at Polo-ground, Leh. Villagers from Nubra, Changthang, central Ladakh and Shaam regions come in their traditional attire to participate in the celebration of the four days Ladakh festival. 

On the opening day, the cultural procession will start at 9am from Karzoo followed by inaugural function at Polo Ground, Leh. The other highlights of the day will be Photo Exhibition of birds and mammals of Ladakh by WCBL (Ladakh Bird Club) in main market from 10 am to 4 pm.

During the four days of festival there will be a number of entertainments, music including folk, sports and cultural events. 

Special talk series on sustainable rural tourism and spirituality, and environment at and film screenings would be also held. 

A polo tournament would be also held during the festival. This year six teams are participating including teams from Drass, Turtuk and Wakha. 

The concluding function of Ladakh Festival will be held on September 25 in Leh market near Jamia Masjid followed by music concert at 6 pm.
