Agro-met issues crop sowing advisory for farmers

In view of prevailing monsoon rainy season, the agro-meteorology division of India Meteorology Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for Jammu farmers for planning their agriculture activities. 

InchargeAgrometeorologycentre, Jammu, Mahender Singh has said the farmers can get the maximum benefit from the monsoons if they follow the suggestions and advice of the centre and experts. 

   

“For next two days there are chances of moderate rainfall in many parts of Jammu province, while the overall weather would remain cloudy. The farmers of Jammu involved in paddy cultivation are advised to go for the transplanting of rice seedlings which have attained 4-6 leaves from the nursery to the fields,” Singh said.

Farmers should apply the basal dose of fertilizer at the time of transplanting and keep away the bunds from the weeds. “Farmers are advised to bund their fields properly for storage of rain water, which can be used for the puddling,” he said. 

He further added that rice farmers who were not able to cultivate a nursery of rice, can directly sow seeds in the farms, with full dosage of nitrogen fertilizer.

For maize farmers, Singh said, “Time is appropriate for sowing of maize crop with seed rate of 20-30 kilograms per hector during clear weather in moist soil. “Farmers are advised to treat seed with Bavistin to minimize the chances of soil borne diseases,” he added.

As per advisory, farmers growing pulses are advised to go for sowing of Moong and Mash during clear weather when attains good moisture.

For fodder and vegetables, agromet advised farmers to opt mixed sowing at optimum soil moisture during clear weather.

“The weather will be partially cloudy for the next one week. The maximum temperature may range from 35 degree Celsius to 39 degree Celsius which will be below normal by 2 degrees while minimum temperature may range from 23 degree Celsius to 26 degrees,” he said.
