Birding guide training commences at Leh

A 15-day Birding Guide Training Programme was inaugurated on Monday in Leh. 

The programme, which was inaugurated by the DC, Leh Avny Lavasa was organised by LAHDC, Leh and financed by Tourism Department under the ‘promotion of theme based tourism program in collaboration with Wildlife Department, WCBCL and ALTOA, Leh today at DC Office conference hall.   

   

Speaking on the occasion, DC said that tourism has huge opportunity in Ladakh with still unexplored avenues and birding would be an important aspect of tourism itinerary. She said that wildlife in Ladakh is unique and it could benefit in providing a good career and income opportunity. But at the same time she stressed to reciprocate care and respect towards our environment and nature. She asserted that birding would be an important activity to ensure responsible and sustainable tourism in Ladakh. She assured of efforts to put some mechanism in place for birding tourism on lines of Chadder trek.  

She said that besides sensitizing the participants about wildlife in Ladakh, the training will give them a holistic understanding of ecology, social issues like stray dog menace, pollution of water bodies, wildlife protection and role of humans that will help them go towards responsible and sustainable tourism. 

President WCBCL, Lobzang Vishuda gave a brief about the organization, their objectives and activities. He pointed out the need to have a well framed regulation for birding tourism considering the deteriorating condition of wildlife in Ladakh. President ALTOA, Tsetan Angchuk also spoke on the occasion and congratulated WCBCL for their initiative in introducing birding guides and opening more avenues in tourism sector for younger generation.
